Melka discusses our 2018 Legend Proprietary Red Blend

Legend Proprietary Red Blend

Legend Proprietary Red Blend

Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky, consultants to some of Napa's most highly regarded vineyards, had full control of winemaking and blending of the 2019 Legend. Like their critically acclaimed 2016, 2017, and 2018 Legend, their goal was to craft this proprietary blend, bringing together the best from our own biodynamically farmed Estate, Annadel Gap Vineyard, complimented with specially sourced organic and sustainable wines from Sonoma County and Napa Valley.

Following three consecutive releases that received 96+ points. 2019 marks the fourth annual release of this show-stopping Cabernet-driven red blend created by  Melka &  Koschitzsky. Dark ruby in color with obsequious fragrances of dark chocolate, black currant, cigar box, and Bing cherries. On the palate, firm age-worthy tannins are underscored by notes of rich berry flavors, with good natural acidity providing length and freshness.  The power of Cabernet Sauvignon complements perfectly the expressions of the Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre in this deliciously hedonistic wine.

Delicious, plump and black fruit forward, the Legend Proprietary blend marries the best blocks of Syrah from our Annadel Gap Vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon from an organic vineyard in the Knights Valley. Mouth-filling in texture, the wine has heft and weight while being fantastically balanced in the finish.

Sangiacomo Robert's Road Vineyard Chardonnay

Sangiacomo Robert's Road Vineyard Chardonnay

This head-turning chardonnay is a notable example of what happens when Philippe and Maayan’s remarkable interpretation of Old-World technique combines with stunning New World (Petaluma Gap) fruit. With its legacy of eye-popping scores from the wine-reviewing domain, it is no surprise that this limited-production chardonnay has become one of the most popular wines we produce. Rich acidity, bright, focused aromas of fuji apple and Asian pear, and crushed limestone.

Sangiacomo Roberts Road Vineyard is located in the Sonoma Coast AVA and is influenced by the fog of the nearby Pacific Ocean. It stays blanketed and cool until mid-day, allowing for gentle ripening. Well-drained, silty gravel soil imparts minerality and a complex richness.

“Vibrant lemon blossom and wet stone on the nose, with allspice, almond, and crème brûlée on the palate. Exquisite mouthwatering acidity is wrapped in a creamy texture before a long, mineral-driven finish in this wine made from certified-sustainable Petaluma Gap grapes.”

Sonoma County Pinot Noir

Sonoma County Pinot Noir

From warm sunny days, to cooler fog covered evenings, Sonoma County's geography and climate influences each vineyard. The grapes for this Pinot Noir were selected primarily from the floor of the Sonoma Valley where unique terroir provides varied soils and ideal growing conditions.

Each Pinot Noir clone was hand-harvested individually at night. The fruit was hand sorted and fermented individually separated by clone. 6 days cold soak, gentle punch downs 1-3 times daily, 14-20 days on skins and gently basket pressed.

Farmed off the estate's Annadel Gap Vineyard, along with parcels sourced from the Petaluma Gap's Terra de Promissio Vineyard, the wine was aged 18 months in 41% new French oak and bottled unfiltered. Fresh red cherry aromas, chocolate, and cinnamon lead to a palate that is juicy to its core. Caramel apple, tomato leaf, lavender, and cranberry are vibrant notes. A generous mouthfeel opens up to baking spices and backed by beet root and rhubarb. Complex and delicious.
